How I see

Layers on: 1

Bent lines and a spot in the centre. This is how the world can look with this condition. Adjust the picture to match yours — turn layers on and off, change strength and background; below you will find an explanation and a text for your doctor.

The model is simplified: real effects depend on lighting, pupil size and where you look. Visual snow and blue-field sparkles are most visible against an even background, which is why a white page is the default.

Wavy lines

Straight lines bend or ripple in one place, and grid squares look different sizes. This is called metamorphopsia. Click the picture to move the zone.

Blind spot

An area where the image is greyed out, faded or missing. The brain partly fills it in with the background, so people often notice it only when reading. Click the picture to move the spot.

When it is urgent: Wavy lines

New or worsening distortion is urgent, within days: in wet macular degeneration, eye injections preserve vision if started early.
